All houses have their own personalities. Have you ever seen an abandoned, neglected, and yet full of character old house? Wasn't it calling out to you, couldn't possibly loose if you bought it, you fell in love with it?
I have learned to expect that from old houses. Don't fall for them! They can totally consume you and your resources if you are not careful!
I'm just kidding…
But some time a clean slate is what's needed – that is why you may want to design your own house totally from scratch.
Believe me, in my 16 years of practicing architecture I have gone through many renovations of my Clients, listening to them complaining and watching them spend money on unintended repairs, thinking I'm not ever going to renovate another old house again… and here I am!
A year ago we bought a house that should have been demolished, there is so much wrong with it. The rooms have very low ceilings, it has a galley kitchen, it has huge windows but they are fixed and cannot be opened… Well, we didn't demolish it and now, even that my husband is an architect too, we still cannot agree to the best way of redesigning it.
But, if we did, I would have had a pleasure of designing a new house now, just like you, so… let's do it together!
